CloudPeep

CloudPeepCover

Recently, I was involved in creating a product focused on Cumulus clouds code-named, “CloudPak.” Because of some unforeseen problems, it appears that product won’t end up making it to market. But, a lot of work was completed and I thought I’d share some of the information I’ve learned while working on the project. So, while the PDF here isn’t a full blown “CloudPak” project, it can be considered a work-in-progress and hopefully will lend insight into how one might go about creating their own cloudscape atmospheres. I hope you find this useful.

SeaVue Tutorial

February 18th, 2009

From the Lost and now Found bin: This 28 minute tutorial based upon Monsoon’s excellent SeaVue package, not to mention another couple of tutes regarding texture mapping. Thanks to Rutra and spedler at Rendo, and Welles Goodrich over at C3D for sending me archived copies. Learn more about these tutes at VueLab.

MetaPeeps

January 6th, 2009

One of the things you can’t do with the free version of Vue 7 Pioneer, is import Poser characters, or other geometry. Populating a scene with people is just about impossible.

So, I created 6 nifty MetaPeeps which can be used to easily populate an existing scene. MetaPeeps are completely created in Vue using metablobs, so they can import into any version of Vue 7 and it turns out they render pretty fast! I’ve also included a MetaPeep EcoSystem which anyone can use to quickly populate your world!
One of the really cool things about these little guys (and/or gals?) is their clothes automatically change colors depending on where in the scene you put them. So, 6 MetaPeeps with different clothing can create a realistic crowd. Check out the image to see what I mean.

Of course you can download them and the EcoSystem and have fun!

2009 Rising

December 28th, 2008

Happy New Year! Here’s a picture of a hanger with the 2009 mega-mylar balloon ready to launch come New Year’s day.

This was actually a study to see what could be accomplished solely within the new FREE version of Vue 7 Pioneer. This file is completely built and rendered in Pioneer.

It was rendered at the highest resolution with the highest settings and has not been retouched. Please view full-size to see the marvelous ground texture created with the new fractals in Vue7 Pioneer.

The only non-standard texture is the GridModeler space frame, which imported perfectly into Pioneer. For those interested, the scene file can be downloaded and studied.

Decal Materials

November 18th, 2008

Adding decals to models can be a bit tricky in Vue, especially if you want to add them to the front, back, or sides.

So, I’ve created some decal material layers. I have ones for Left, Right, Top, Bottom, Front and Back. They are simple to use and understand– just ‘add layer’ to existing material.

You can download them at:
http://www.gadgetplugins.com/chippstuff/DecalMaps.zip

A quick tutorial on how to use these can be found HERE.

One thing I don’t mention in the tutorial, is the decal bitmap you use must be a 100% white on 100% black image (jpg, png, bmp,…) with no transparency channel.

Change the decal layer color to whatever color you want the decal to be (currently it’s red).

Model Like a SuperHero!

October 22nd, 2008
A sneak peak at some of what I’ve been working on lately. The idea is to show how you can use Vue to create some really nice models quickly. Hope to have it ready by December!

Take a PEEK at the first few pages!
