Cloud Carrier

Here’s a new image I whipped up last evening. I’ve recently been watching some speed painting training vids and it inspired me to create some new techniques for creating models extremely fast. All the models in this image were created in one evening in Vue 7 Infinite (not including the people).

I used ecoSystems to populate a standard plane with 60-80 random primitives, then I ‘de-instanced’ and grouped them in sets of about 3-6 prims each.
Next I created metablobs for each group, using VueTools when necessary to create symmetry.
Then I duplicated the metablob, un-blobbed it to it’s constituent forms, grouped them and added a different texture. By scaling the un-blobbed hard prim group and moving it a bit, I was able to create a very complex shape quickly.
Typically, these vehicle models took less than 5 minutes each to create.
Rendered in the new Vue 7 Infinite with those magnificent clouds!

Awesome rendering! Really like the water reflections on the deck and your composition. Unfortunately I didn’t understand all of the blobbing / deblobbing explanation. Any chance of a tutorial in the near future on how you created that image?

Yep, I’m planning on a video tute for this soon.

Excellent. Thank you. Is Vue7 Infinite or Complete required to create this image?

Reading the Infinite/Complete comparison table at e-on, it seems only Vue 7 Infinite, not Vue 7 complete will support python scripting. So you’ll have to buy Infinite to use Vue Tools (or am I mistaken?)

[I don't want to comment as anonymous, but the script won't accept my id from Livejournal, it says there's an OpenID error]

Anonymous, I’ll check on the OpenID error. Vue 7 Complete will be able to RUN scripts, but not to develop scripts. So, VueTools should work fine with Complete :-)

    That rocks. Great image.

Are the clouds really all that much faster in 7? We used vue on some Glactica shots but boy, it sure could be quicker. I really like X-Stream – I use it fairly often, but really the speed makes me only want to do BG stills with it… :-(

BTW, I ran into Syd last year – we talked a bit about you. Your ears must have been burning…
